Environmental Studies and Sciences

Accelerated Environmental Studies Program

Earn your bachelor’s in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Biology, or Natural Sciences and a MS degree in Environmental Studies in just five years.

Take a direct path to a rewarding career researching or protecting the environment and promoting sustainability. Enroll in Adelphi’s accelerated, 4+1 program in Environmental Studies.

There is an immediate need for leaders who can address critical issues relating to global climate change and sustainability. This exciting 4+1 program gives students a solid foundation in climate and environmental sciences, with a particular emphasis on human adaptations to climate change and environmental degradation or topics like green energy or promoting environmentally-friendly societies.

Our 4+1 program is designed for motivated students who want to gain specialized training beyond that offered by our bachelor’s programs. It offers an accelerated path to a graduate degree, including hands-on experiences, ranging from research assistantships to internships, that boost professional qualifications.

Why Should I Enroll in Adelphi’s Accelerated BA or BS + MS in Environmental Studies Program?

The Environmental Studies 4+1 program provides students with the opportunity to complete a BA or BS and our MS in only five years of study. You’ll get a personalized education, working with your adviser and faculty mentors to develop the knowledge, skills and experience you’ll need to launch your career. You’ll study in small classes, conduct original research and work with the latest technology in our newly refurbished Geographic Information Systems (GIS) laboratory. And you’ll have the opportunity to do fieldwork in locations close to campus and as far away as Australia or Alaska.

You’ll have a wide range of options when you get your degree. Our alumni are in professional positions at the Sierra Club and the American Museum of Natural History, teaching at universities and high schools in the United States and Australia, and working as environmental restoration managers, risk and compliance advisers, GIS specialists for local governments and private industry.

What Will I Study in the BA or BS + MS in Environmental Studies and Sciences Program?

Adelphi’s unique program offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach, breaking down departmental barriers to incorporate perspectives from earth sciences, biology, chemistry, anthropology, political science, philosophy, physics and other fields.

You’ll be able to earn up to 12 credits of 500-level and above courses in your senior year, all counting toward your undergraduate and graduate degrees. Upon earning the bachelor’s degree and gaining permission from the graduate coordinator, you will matriculate into the master of science program. The graduate credits earned during your senior year (see below) will be added to your graduate transcript, making it possible for you to receive your Master of Science in Environmental Studies degree by completing as few as 21 credits in your fifth year.
