There is an urgently growing need for environmental scientists, specialists and policymakers who can devise solutions to critical environmental issues such as climate change, environmental degradation and sustainability. Adelphi’s BS in Environmental Science degree program gives you the knowledge and training to address even the most critical environmental challenges.

Thanks to our interdisciplinary approach, you’ll be able to chart your own course of study for the environmental science major with classes that cover everything from the natural and social sciences to the humanities. You can further tailor your degree path by enrolling in one of four optional curricular tracks. Field trips to environments as diverse as Alaska and Australia add even more opportunity to this exceptional learning experience.

Jobs for environmental science majors span a wide range; our alumni are employed as policy designers, regulators, field contractors, researchers, teachers, geographic information systems (GIS) technicians and more.

As an environmental science major, you’ll also have the chance to earn both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees in environmental science in only five years by applying for our joint BS/MS degree program before your senior year.

And if you plan to teach in public schools, we offer a unique five-year bachelor’s and master’s degree program that combines the BS in Environmental Science with education courses, leading to a New York state teaching certification in earth science.

What Will I Study as a BS in Environmental Science Major?

We designed our environmental science degree to focus on offerings in the biological sciences, chemistry, physics or the social sciences, as well as in an expanded selection of environmental and earth sciences courses. You can build on your natural sciences foundation by choosing from a wide range of complementary humanities and social sciences electives.

Best of all, as an environmental science major, you can customize your curriculum by choosing to enroll in one of our four curricular tracks: Marine and Coastal Environments, Environmental Policy, Earth Sciences, or Environmental Sustainability. Credits completed within a track count toward your environmental science major requirements.
